Semi-Permanent Hair Color Review

Finding the perfect type of hair color to get the results you want can be rather difficult. Are you ready to make a permanent change? How much do you plan on lightening or darkening your hair? Are you planning on changing your hair fairly frequently? You should take all of these things into consideration when you decide which type of hair color you want to use on your hair. There are permanent, demi-permanent, and semi-permanent hair colors which all have varying levels of color duration.

If you are not concerned about gray coverage and like to color your hair different colors often, you may want to consider using a semi permanent hair color. They don't last nearly as long as permanent or demi-permanent colors but they can be used to make subtle changes that come out easily.

Using a semi-permanent hair color is great for trying out a hair color without making a commitment. You can wear the hair color for a few weeks and see if you like it enough to take it up to a more permanent level. You can also go with a more dramatic change since it will wash out fairly soon after you color it.

Semi-permanent hair color has smaller molecules than temporary dyes, which is what give it a more permanent effect. Since the molecules are smaller they can slightly enter the hair shaft where they will stay for a few weeks. This means a semi-permanent hair color will last through 4 to 5 shampoos.

Most semi permanent colors do not contain developer, peroxide, or ammonia and if they do the levels of these chemicals are much lower than in that of more permanent hair colors. Since semi-permanent hair colors are less concentrated with these chemicals they are more appropriate for delicate, damaged hair.

The final outcome of your hair color with a semi-permanent dye will largely depend on the current state of your hair. If your hair has been colored and is more porous your color may come out differently. Semi-permanent colors create more of a subtle variation which will make your hair color look more natural.

Since semi-permanent hair color is more subtle it will not cover gray and white hairs the way a demi-permanent or permanent hair color would. If you have seldom gray hairs showing through a semi-permanent hair color should blend those strands in well enough with the rest of your hair so that they will not be noticeable. However, if you have a great deal of gray hairs you are better off going with a permanent or demi-permanent color for coverage.

Since semi-permanent hair color is more gentle and does not contain high levels of developer it cannot lighten hair. You can use semi-permanent hair colors to darken your hair or add a subtle tint to darker shades. The best thing about semi-permanent colors is that they last long enough to help you determine whether or not you like a color, but they wash out easily enough that you won't have to worry about spending tons of time and money trying to remove the color if you dislike the outcome.
